Hello my friend! Welcome to walking day 1 of 365! I am excited to begin this journey, how about you?
It is a beautiful morning here. The sun is up and peaking through the trees. You may notice in the picture that we a bit bundled up. I was surprised when I checked the temperature. It was 48 degrees this morning. I guess it is just another sign that fall is here. That's okay. We didn't mind. We grabbed our milk, our water, and our coats, and headed out the door. We walked 3 miles in 60 minutes. We would have only walked the 2.75 miles that I originally planned on, but my son requested that we go up a big hill. It is usually our turn around point, but I didn't mind. My buns needed the work out. Plus, it is nice that he is getting involved. The cows and horses we usually see weren't out this morning. I guess they needed their beauty sleep. Tre was bummed, but like he said, "maybe next time." I'm excited for you to start today too. This just as much your journey as it is mine. Please remember though to listen to your body. If 2.75 miles is too much for your today, that's okay. Do what you can do. Your body will let you know what is best. I'm proud of you for getting out there. It's hard to start something new sometimes, but you did it! And you won't be alone. I'll be with you the whole way! As we begin this journey together, there are a few things to keep in mind:
I'm curious to hear about your journey too. I'd love it if you'd share it with me. Tell me about it in the comments below! Where did your path take you today? Did you walk in the country like me or were you in the city? Did you walk along a mountain side, along a shoreline, or in the great plains? Did you walk alone, or did you have company? What was the best part? I can't wait to hear! Have a blessed day my friend! Talk to you tomorrow!

Our power is on today. It is the first day in 5 days that I woke up to power and water. We had a storm roll through and the weather man talked about the rain so I was prepared for that, but I didn’t hear anything about wind. Wouldn’t you know it was the wind that got us? The storm came early this year. Normally I expect this kind of weather deep within the fall season or the beginning of winter, but not in August. At first I thought that we weren’t prepared for this, but I was surprised at how well we did. I felt like quite the homesteader. Our generator isn’t big enough to power the whole house, but it kept the refrigerator and a small light going so thankfully we had food and were not totally in the dark. Water on the other hand made me work for it. We are on a well so when the power is out, so is our water. No toilets, no showers, no running water of any kind. We brought it in from our 50 gallon water barrel a bucket at a time. These small items made it manageable, but we were roughing it for sure. We have one less voice in the house now. We took a little road trip and drove my sister back to college for her senior year. I miss her already, but I love hearing a new story from her every day. As a person, she is growing so much there and I can’t wait to see what this year brings for her. She is overflowing with life and is bound and determined to change the world. It is an amazing thing to be a part of. One of my favorite moments this summer was watching Benny and Joon with my sister one day during my son’s nap time. The song “I’m Gunna Be” came on, and it got me thinking. If you haven’t heard the song, the chorus goes something like this: “I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more. To be the man who walked 1,000 miles to fall down at your door…” The 1,000 miles part stuck out to me. I wondered what it would take to walk 1,000 miles. I might not be able to run long distances or do high intensity workouts, but I can walk. I bet I can walk 1,000 miles this year. So I did some calculations and if I average about 2 ¾ miles a day, I could walk 1,000 miles in a year. Now, I live in Washington so rains 9 months out of the year here, but with a little give and take, I bet I can do it.
What about you? Do you think you can do it? Will you walk 1,000 miles with me? We can start tomorrow. September 4th 2015 to September 5th 2016. Are you in? Great! I’m excited! How about you? I will post every day, and I would love it if you would post your progress too so we can do this together. Two heads are better than one right? Yay! Grab your tennis shoes and I will see you tomorrow!!!! |
